Saint Joseph Parish School FAQ’s

Thank you for choosing a Catholic education for your child and welcome to Saint Joseph Parish School.  Below are some answers to frequently asked questions.

Kindergarten Age-Requirement and New Student Application

  • Students must be five by September 30, 2019, to enroll in kindergarten for the 2019-2020 school year. 

  • All new kindergarten students are given an assessment as a measure of strengths and weaknesses.

  • Students are officially admitted after the return of all required paperwork (including providing original birth and baptismal certificates [if applicable] for review).

  • New students applying for admittance in grades 1-8 are asked to provide current transcripts and copies of any ISP/ IEP or 504/ IMAP, in addition to completing required paperwork and assessment. 

  • All newly- admitted students entering Saint Joseph Parish School are probationary for the first year.

School Hours

  • School doors open to students at 7:30 AM.  Students are expected to be in their seats by 7:55 AM, ready for prayer and announcements beginning at 8:00 AM.

  • Dismissal begins at 2:35 PM for the middle school (6-8) and 2:45 PM for the elementary (K-5).

Uniforms

  • Students in kindergarten through grade eight are required to wear uniforms throughout the school year.

  • Uniforms may be purchased through Schoolbelles, 5325 Monroe St. Toledo, OH 43623.  The complete dress code policy will be provided upon enrollment.

  • PTO sponsors a used uniform sale each year.

Athletics

  • The following extracurricular athletic opportunities are offered through CYO: cross country, track, football, basketball, soccer and volleyball.  Baseball and soccer are available through Sylvania Recreation.

Fine Arts

  • Students in grades kindergarten through eight participate in music and art classes.

Foreign Language

  • Spanish classes begin with kindergarten students through the eighth grade.

Lunch

Saint Joseph Parish School has a cafeteria with daily hot lunch and weekly vendor lunches such as Vitos, Chick-Fil-A, and Subway, etc.  Students may also choose to pack their lunch and purchase milk or water.  Saint Joseph does participate in a Free Lunch Program for those who qualify.  Applications are sent home at the beginning of the school year and are available anytime by request. 

Transportation

Students living in the Sylvania district may use Sylvania busing for transportation.  A request for transportation must be made each year at the Sylvania District site: http://www.sylvaniaschools.org/Non-PublicTransportation.aspx

Extended Day Program

Saint Joseph Parish School offers an Extended Day Program for kindergarten through sixth grade (7th and 8th graders by request) beginning at 2:45 PM and ending at 5:30 PM. There is a fee associated with usage.  Registration is available by contacting Jennifer Betz.
