Dress Code

2020 - 2021 SCHOOL YEAR 
 
Saint Joseph Parish School has an established uniform code for students in Kindergarten through Grade 8.  Uniforms may be purchased through Schoolbelles, 5325 Monroe Street, Toledo, OH 43623. Pants and shorts may be purchased through local stores but must meet the exact style and color of the pants and shorts at Schoolbelles. 
 
MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS (Grades 6, 7, 8)
 
Skirt with Blouse/Shirt.  Any style of Saint Joseph plaid skirt/skort with a long or short-sleeved monogrammed shirt, cotton/poly or moisture-wicking polo. 
 

  • Shirt – white or navy    

 

Pants with Shirt.  Dress pants with a long or short-sleeved monogrammed shirt, cotton/poly or moisture-wicking polo.  While the pants do not have to be purchased at Schoolbelles, all pants are to follow the exact style and color of the pants sold at Schoolbelles. Specifically, no jogger, legging or cargo-style pants. 
 

  • Slacks – khaki Shirt – white or navy 

 
Shorts with Shirt.  Walking-length (knee-length) shorts with a short-sleeved monogrammed shirt (cotton/poly or moisture-wicking polo) may be worn in August, September, May, and June.   

 

  • Shorts – Khaki Shirt – white or navy

 
 
MIDDLE SCHOOL BOYS (Grades 6, 7, 8)
 
Pants with Shirt.  Dress pants, with a dress shirt (long or short-sleeved) and a tie, or with a monogrammed shirt, cotton/poly or moisture-wicking polo. While the pants do not have to be purchased at Schoolbelles, all pants are to follow the exact style and color of the pants sold at Schoolbelles. Specifically, no jogger or cargo style pants. 

 

  • Pants – Khaki Dress shirt – white or light blue 

Shorts with Shirt. Walking-length (knee-length) shorts with a short-sleeved monogrammed shirt may be worn in August, September, May, and June.   

  • Shorts – Khaki Shirt – white or navy 

 
 
ELEMENTARY GIRLS (Grades K – 5)
 
Skirt, Skort or Jumper with Shirt.   Any style Saint Joseph plaid skirt, skort or jumper with a long or short-sleeved monogrammed shirt, cotton/poly or moisture-wicking polo. 

 

  • Shirt – white or navy

ELEMENTARY BOYS (Grades K – 5)

ALL STUDENTS (Grades K – 8) 
 
Physical Education.  Students in grade K-8 are required to wear the SJS monogrammed P.E. uniform shorts and/or sweatpants (either open leg or tapered leg active pant) and T-shirts from Schoolbelles, socks, and athletic shoes (see “Shoes” below).  SJS P.E. uniform shorts must be two inches above the knee or longer. 
 
Sweaters.  Solid navy, monogrammed, available only through Schoolbelles. Styles include V-neck cardigan, pullover and sweater vest. 
 
Sweatshirt. The official Saint Joseph Parish School navy monogrammed sweatshirt, available only through Schoolbelles, may be worn over a shirt in place of a sweater.  
 
Turtlenecks.  Grades K-3 only.  White or navy with skirts, skorts or jumpers.  
 
Cold Weather Pants for Girls.  The only approved pant allowed under a skirt, skort or jumper is the SJS monogrammed sweatpants (either open leg or tapered leg active pant). No pajama bottoms. 
 
Shoes.

  • Gr. 6-8 students may wear black, brown or navy leather shoes. Sperry style single color shoes are permitted.  

  • Gr. K-5 students may wear low-top athletic shoes that tie or velcro – no slip-ons, high-tops or light-up. 

 
Socks.  Solid white, navy or black knee socks, tights, or crew socks.  Socks must be worn at all times.  Holiday socks are permitted throughout the month of December only. 
 
Belts.  Grades 5-8; Brown or black belts are required. 
 
 
SPECIAL UNIFORM DAYS 
Scout Uniforms: These uniforms may be worn on meeting days. 
 
Dress -Up Days: Students are not required to wear uniforms on dress-up days.  Outfits must be school appropriate.  Students may not wear jeans. 
 
Jeans Days: Students are not required to wear uniforms on jeans days.  They may wear jeans or other nice casual pants and a school-appropriate shirt. 
 

 

ADDITIONAL DRESS CODE INFORMATION: GRADES K - 8 

  • Hats or caps may not be worn in the school building, even on jeans days.

  • Skirt, skort, jumper, and short lengths must be within two inches of the top of the knee.  

  • Pants must be in good condition and worn at the waist.

  • All shirts must be tucked in.  (Schoolbelles banded-bottom knit shirts are the only exception.)

  • Jeans are defined as pants with topstitched seams and rivets.  Cargo-style pants are pants with large patch pockets/zippers on the legs.  These types of pants are only allowed on jeans days.

  • Leggings/yoga pants may only be worn with shirts/sweaters extending to finger-tip length.

  • Shirts with inappropriate words or images, sleeveless shirts, mesh shirts, bike shorts, and cut-off sweats are not allowed.  If t-shirts are worn under shirts or blouses, they must be plain white (no lettering or graphics).
