This year, for our Lenten Solidarity Project, St. Joseph will participate in the Catholic Relief Services’ Operation Rice Bowl. Operation Rice Bowl collects donations and distributes the money to various countries in need. The funds will be used in response to the most critical issues.
►Funds are used to help farmers improve crop yields and increase food security
►Donations help bring clean water into communities
►Small businesses are supported and promoted
►Projects that provide basic health care and nutrition are created
►Education resources and training are provided
►25% of our contribution remains in our diocese to alleviate local poverty and hunger
Please encourage your students to bring in money they have earned and drop it in the “rice bowl” provided to each homeroom. We will be collecting for this project from February 27th through March 30th. We would also like to encourage the students to provide acts of service in their home and community. Attached to this letter is a sheet with pictures of quarters.(pdf below) Parents are encouraged to set out their own “rice bowl” at home and have their child/children drop in a quarter when they have provided an act of service for someone in their family or community.
Thank you for your generosity!
