The following is a schedule for Right to Read Week (February 13-17). We hope you will help your child/children by encouraging them to accept the Reading Challenge and read, not just next week, but every day!!!
Monday, February 13 *Book Swap and Hat’s Off to Reading Day
The Book Swap will be for each grade level. Just send in a gently-used book that your child has read and/or no longer needs and they can swap it out for another great book to take home to read. Don’t forget to find a fun hat for them to wear all day!
Tuesday, February 14 * Wear RED for Ricky Red Bird Day
This is a uniform day, but your student can wear any (or all) of the following items in the color red: headbands, shirts, sweaters, beads, sweatshirts, scarves…just like our Patriotic Day during Catholic Schools Week. Students are limited to these items. Please notice: Capes are NOT on the approved list.
Wednesday, February 15 *Visiting Author Day
Ricky Red Bird author (and St. Joseph School graduate), Mrs. Stacy Lievens will be speaking to the students about her book. The students and staff will be wearing “Ricky” stickers as a reminder to live a life filled with virtue.
Thursday, February 16 *Treat Day and Buddy Reading Day
All students will be given a “Mrs. Hoehn-approved treat” to share while participating in the Buddy Reading time.
Friday, February 17 *Reading T-Shirt with Jeans and Ronald McDonald Day
Grades K-3 will attend Ronald McDonald’s Book Talk, while the entire school enjoys a Reading T-Shirt and Jeans Day. We hope your students have been working on their shirts, or deciding on one they already own!
The Reading Challenge instructions and slips are being sent home Thursday, February 9 with EVERY STUDENT. All of this information, and extra Reading Challenge slips, can be found on SchoolSpeak and/or in the SJS Thursday envelope. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email.
